His grandmother was his greatest influence. At the tender age of nine, she instilled in him his passion for music. Dquan humbly credits her for allowing him to find and nurture his voice. This eventually enabled him to connect with his thoughts to produce quality music.

He gives thanks for having the experience of singing in church choirs, which motivated him to write his own lyrics. That same motivation has also guided him to become the recording artist and DJ that he is today. As a result of his drive, he has received astonishing reviews from fellow peers in the industry.

Other musical influences and sources of inspiration include: Bob Marley, Akon, Sanchez, Beres Hammond, Frankie Paul and many others. Still Dquan strives to maintain his own musical versatility and style. In “Something About You”, his sultry voice caters to the ladies. In contrast, he illustrates the harsh reality of the true life in his hit “Too Much Suffering”. He states that some of his favorite singers are Ne-Yo and Sanchez because they make music for the ladies and they influence him to sing songs that everyday people are able to relate to. Dquan, who grew up playing the drums and singing, truly believes he was born to create music. He intends to refresh the reggae genre by bringing forth young, vibrant energy and positivity. The artist expressed that Vybz Kartel is presently the best reggae/dancehall artist out there and is an example of the type of artist needed to keep the reggae industry alive. Familiar with stage, he has performed with Lady Saw, Mega Shock, Da Professor and Lustah.

Personally, Dquan’s biggest accomplishment thus far, has been to take that step in becoming an independent artist. Future goals for Dquan include releasing his own major hit as well as collaborating with major artists. Despite being a veteran, Basil Waite, better known as Lucki Lus or Lustah, still believes he possess the potential to revolutionize the Jamaican music industry

The Jamaican born artiste, who has been residing in New York City for the last decade, has over the years continued to fine tune his craft.

“Originally it was just a hobby, but in the last two to five years, I’ve decided to take it to a professional level and I haven’t looked back since,” Waite noted.

Convinced he has possessed impeccable musical skills since his earlier years of playing ‘DJ’ in music class while in the ninth grade at Herbert Morrison Technical High School, the artiste has spent extensive periods studying different genres of music, which he has fused with his own reggae style to create a new vibrant musical offering for all his listeners.

“My music is still reggae, but it offers more versatility than that of someone who has grounded themselves in only one aspect of the music, so the listener has more to choose from in a single compact disc.”

Lustah, who currently writes his own music, has performed on various shows in his effort to hone his skill from West Indian Reggae Festival in Connecticut to Jamboree, just to name a few.

His most recent projects came with his trip back to Jamaica as he paid his tributes to Marcus Garvey at the Marcus Garvey Family Fun Day and Show held at the Montpelier Showground on Saturday, August 20, 2011. His exploits did not stop there; as he finished the voicing of his track-Don’t Burn it Down- for one of Jamaica’s top recording studios-Big Stone Recording- for their recently launched album-Iya Pickney.

Lustah is also currently putting in the work for his much anticipated 14 tracks album-Rewards-which is set to be launched February of next year.

‘The work has to go on and from here on out its never ending. The fan base has been growing internationally and the feedback we have been receiving is truly inspirational, so we have no intention of quitting,” Lucki added.

Waite’s songs have been blazing the airwaves locally, with request flooding radio stations such as Irie FM, Hitz 92 FM and RJR for his hit songs Sayonara and Naughty Shawty.

“Since I’ve been home, we hardly drive a day and not hear my songs on the radio or people telling us they love it as they can relate to what I’m saying or my song draws back a memory.”

Approximately two years ago, Lustah, armed with a legacy of musical knowledge, released his first single entitled “Sayonara.” Today the singjay’s voice frequently permeates the local and international airwaves with singles such as “Club Star,” “She Wants Love,” and “The Creator.” Lustah, a past student of Herbert Morrison Technical High who now calls the United States home says he is grateful to have performed in several US cities, Canada and sections of Europe. Having shared stage with artistes such as Tarrus Riley, Duane Stephenson, Dean Frasier, Ravon, Red Fox, Squeechie Dan, Bounty Killer, Movado, and others, Lustah says his musical journey is just beginning.
